SUMMARY:Hearing on Snap's Motion to Dismiss the Complaint
DESCRIPTION:Snap INC.’s attempt to dismiss grieving parents’ lawsuit. \nHearing on Snap’s motion to Dismiss Neville et al v. Snap Inc.\, Los Angeles County Superior Court\, Case No. 22STCV33500 \nThe plaintiffs will hold a press conference prior to the proceedings on Friday morning. Victims’ families\, alongside council\, Social Media Victims Law Center and C.A. Goldberg\, will speak with press on the courthouse steps about their historic lawsuit against Snap Inc. \nTime: \n9:30 AM PST\, Wednesday\, 18 October 2023 \nBackground: \nThe plaintiffs impacted by these proceeding s include 63 grieving families who say that Snap Inc knowingly allowed criminal behavior on the platform\, Snapchat\, and even targeted their children with drug advertisements and connections at the cost of their children’s lives. \nThe judge in this case\, Honorable Lawrence P. Riff\, will hear Snap Inc’s motion for sanctions against the plaintiffs along with a motion to have the case dismissed by the Los Angeles Superior Court. \nSnap Inc’s legal maneuvers are typical of a mega corporation attempting to evade accountability. To disrupt and confuse proceedings in this way is all a part of the greater strategy to deflect and allay shareholders’ concerns. \nWhile today is another day at the office for Snap and its legal representatives\, it’s far more for the plaintiffs who represent a small fraction of the overall carnage left in the wake of Snap Inc’s platform\, Snapchat. \nPlaintiffs contend that each day\, untold numbers of illicit drug transactions\, extortion schemes\, sharing of child abuse materials\, suicidal exploitation\, and more take place on Snapchat with mortal consequences. Plaintiffs contend that many of the negative issues that are prevalent on the platform are not bugs\, but instead are known and foreseeable outcomes of the platform’s design and programming decisions. \nAs discovery and denials pile up\, Snap Inc’s methods and motivations become startlingly clear. From the beginning\, Snapchat was built for sexting and drug procurement without consequence\, created by and appealing to adults who sought to circumvent societal norms via their mobile devices. \nThe dangerous nature of the Snapchat platform was intentional and was purposely targeted at young people through “dark patterns\,” or strategies designed to lure and capture users through careful psychological hacks\, marketing\, and then monopolization of the social media space amongst young Americans. \nRead the complaint here: \nhttps://pugetstaffing.filev.io/r/s/26c4awWnY0An7xvKUojnaKNgBBP2d8R7o8WZT9wctxiW7gwztqN6yMxB \nRead recent statements by law enforcement\, Plaintiffs’ legal team\, and plaintiffs themselves in response to Snap Inc’s efforts to deflect: \nhttps://pugetstaffing.filevineapp.com/s/26033gkBIXyYx8ne1AeYuTmkPAoEbROlFF3rlMon4oHWGA2zRtT96PMs \nFor questions or more information please contact \nAmy Neville amy@anfhelp.org 480-213-3705 \nSam Chapman schapman@primemediamanagement.com 312-961-9492

SUMMARY:Unraveling the Deadly Grip of Fentanyl on America & the World
DESCRIPTION:The World Affairs Council of Orange County presents: \nUnraveling the Deadly Grip of Fentanyl on America & The World featuring: \nState Senator Tom Umberg \nCalifornia is facing an unprecedented drug crisis both in scale and nature\, requiring timely legislative responses. Fentanyl\, a type of synthetic opioid\, is responsible for over two-thirds of drug-related deaths\, which spiked last year to 21\,000 in California alone. The crisis is especially prevalent in Orange County\, with deaths by fentanyl overdose reported to have gone up by 177%\, and more potent analogs of fentanyl continued to be found. Moreover\, fentanyl is often unknowingly consumed by individuals who believe they are taking other drugs\, meaning that the fatal risk of a fentanyl overdose is not taken into consideration by those accidentally taking them\, resulting in preventable deaths. Fentanyl precursors are largely sourced from abroad\, in places like China and India\, which are then shipped to Mexico\, where most production takes place. Collaboration with these countries to crack down on fentanyl’s production and movement is integral if wish to halt the fentanyl epidemic in the United States. \nTo tackle this urgent crisis\, Senator Tom Umberg proposes several legislative measures: Senate Bill 60\, aimed at preventing drug sales on social media\, a main outlet for illicit drugs for the youth; Senate Bill 250\, expanding the 9-1-1 Good Samaritan Law and providing fentanyl immunity\, encouraging people to report their dealers; Senate Concurrent Resolution 39\, establishing National Fentanyl Awareness Day; and Senate Bill 44\, also known as Alexandra’s Law\, which aims to hold fentanyl sellers accountable for homicide and prevent fentanyl-related deaths through warnings. \nAn In-Person Dinner Event \nDate & Time: \nWednesday\, September 20\, 2023 \n5:30 PM: Reception \n6:30 PM: Main Program & Q&A \nLocation:\nPavilion A\nCSUF Titan Student Union\n800 N. State College Blvd.\nFullerton\, CA 92831 \nTickets:\nEarly Bird Registration!\nRegister by Sept 13 to receive discounted ticket prices.\nDiscounted prices below:\nMembers: $45\nNon-members: $65\nYoung Professionals members: $35\nStudents: Free \nRegister Here! \nThank you to our community partner\, ClearSaves! \nClearSaves is an altruistic nonprofit endeavor fervently committed to engendering positive change within society by championing harm reduction.
